Master Bath Remodel

Home & Decor

We bought our home in late 2014 while I was about 5 months pregnant with Cal — so we had only a small window of opportunity to get remodel work done before he was due. As any mother can attest, that nesting instinct is STRONG — you really get antsy when you have remodel projects pending.

There were a lot of things to do when we moved into the house but for the sake of timing, we decided to tackle the projects in two phases. In Phase 1 we did the kitchen, guest room and powder bath, and in Phase 2, we all lived in the guest room while re-doing the entire upstairs which included creating a new bedroom, a new bathroom, moving the laundry room to a different floor, and giving the master bathroom a major facelift.

When I say facelift, I really mean it, check it out below, here is the BEFORE picture, with tired and dated brown tones, boring mirror, nothing special…. and scroll down below for the AFTER!

I worked with my good girlfriend, Marissa Cramer, of Marissa Cramer Interiors, to give the space a bright, fresh and updated look. As anyone who knows me will be able to tell in about 2 seconds flat, I LOVE the light, bright and beachy look, and Marissa was a genius in making that vision come to life.

Marissa picked up two amazing Z Gallerie Reflection Mirrors and we had the carpenter custom build the cabinet installed between the two mirror. My favorite things about this cabinet is 1.) It hides all my bathroom clutter so the room looks clean (er) most of the time, and 2.) It has a plug for a curling iron or electric toothbrushes inside so I can get these tools off the counter tops, and 3.) the cabinet has two lovely linen side sconces from Restoration Hardware that are connected to a dimmer so I can unwind in the evening under a soft glow, and I don’t have to see how bad my wrinkles are getting! Lol!!

If you are still reading this you must truly be a remodel fan, so I will give you the rest of the dirty details because apparently this isn’t boring to you. 🙂

We decided to go with lots of light grey and lots of marble, because, can you really go wrong with grey marble? The floor is Carrara Marble 12×24 tile, honed, the counters are a gorgeous Carrara marble slab, the shower walls are Carrara Marble 6×12 tiles, polished, and for a fun pop, we did Carrara basketweave, gray dot, honed, on the shower floor.

We used Kingston Brass Heritage Widespread Faucets in a vintage style which blended well with the Kohler Bancroft Shower hardware and the drawer handles by Snyder Diamond. We used our same original bathtub but had the carpenter make  custom shaker side panels and cabinet door faces to give the space a beachy, coastal vibe. So there you have it, viola!

Overall, I loved how it all turned out and really find it to be one of my favorite spaces in the house. Now if I can only figure out how to go the the bathroom without my toddler barging in — then it might really feel like that tranquil spa experience I was going for!

Hi! I'm Megan!

I am working on walking that out in my own life after enduring 2 IUIs, 7 egg retrievals, 3 fertility surgeries, 4 embryo transfers, 2 embryos transfers into a surrogate, and 2 near death experiences from it all. I don’t know the end of my story yet, but I believe it will be a happy ending. I spend my days helping others find their happy endings through the gift of surrogacy. I would love to connect with you, feel free to share below the happy ending you are waiting for in your own life!

Love,

Megan
