Eeek! It’s my official launch day and I’m so excited!!
I can’t believe it’s finally here, it’s been a labor of love, sweat and tears for sure, because….I STARTED A COMPANY!
But I am getting ahead of myself, I have a little story to tell you first…
For those who have been following along my journey in my former blog Tiny Tow Heads, you will know my husband and I have struggled for a very long time to grow our family, and I even almost died after something went horribly wrong during my 4th IVF egg retrieval.
I have spent many mornings slumped over the kitchen table in tears, after failed IVFs or dismal doctor’s diagnosis, and one day, I met an angel, in the truest sense of the word, and she changed my life forever. The angel was my child’s nanny, who had been in our life since my son was just 4 weeks old; she started as my “mother’s helper” and transitioned into full time care when I went back to work 11 weeks after his birth. She is a young mother herself, her children are now pre-teens, and she approached me one morning with an offer that just floored me, it took my breath away and made my heart leap all at the same time.
She offered to be a surrogate and carry a child for us.
I had never even thought about this idea as an option before. And I was just so in awe of someone who would offer something so very beautiful and special. When she said this to my husband and I I just broke down crying, it touched my heart so much. And it also birthed my interest in this field, the field of surrogacy and the tribe of mothers who generously allow others to finally realize their dreams of parenthood, to make a way to meet a biological child of their own.
I attended a conference on Surrogacy & Egg Donation, the 5thannual conference of it’s kind because this field is still in it’s infancy in so many ways, yet growing very quickly! A lawyer who has been practicing in the field of Adoption & Surrogacy Law for over 20 years delivered the keynote speech, and I scribbled notes furiously — I found it all so fascinating! I came home bubbling over with excitement, telling my husband all about about this unique, niche industry. My husband then mentioned casually that there was someone in his office building that he believed practiced surrogacy law.
So, as any good wife would do, I stopped by to snoop, and lo and behold it was the same keynote lawyer from the conference!
When a surrogacy match is made, two different lawyers represent both the surrogate mother, and the future intended parents, to protect the interest of both. Even though I was wearing ripped jeans and flip-flops, I decided to knock unannounced on this lawyer’s door, because, what the heck, what’s the worst that can happen?
He was so warm and welcoming and so I told him the story of my infertility journey and all about my nanny’s generous offer. He said he would be happy to represent either my nanny or myself, and then he made me an offer that I wasn’t expecting. He asked if I was interested in learning the ropes of the industry through an informal position at his law firm. I said, YES, of course!
So this brings me to where I am today, the proud owner of my very own surrogacy agency, which has quietly been in business since last year, but is gaining momentum — so it’s time to swing the doors open wide and announce on social media!
This is a new frontier that I am very passionate about and I feel I am uniquely able to understand my client’s needs and deliver to them exactly what I would want and dream for myself, a caring, loving and trust-worthy woman willing give their baby a warm & loving home for 9 months. And for the surrogate mothers, they have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do something SO very rewarding, to be a hero for another family, and to earn great money! Surrogate mothers are compensated on average between $55,000-$75,000 with generous perks and benefits.
So this is where I would LOVE your help, if you feel so inclined to support me in my new business endeavor. 🙂 Here are two things you could do today which would make me eternally grateful!
1.) Please spend two minutes thinking through who you know that could be a great surrogate mother, these are healthy women between 21-39 who have relatively easy pregnancies without any complications. I even have a quick quiz on my website that gals can take to see if they would qualify. If you refer me your friend and she becomes a surrogate in my program, I will pay you a nice $500 dollar referral fee! I know this industry isn’t talked about very much(yet), but there is a LONG LINE of families waiting for a special woman to be their surro mommy. Working at the law firm has shown me just how great the need is. Women who have lost their uterus due to a cancer diagnosis, women who cannot carry due to diabetes, women who, like me, have frozen embryos but are terrified of trying a pregnancy again in their own body. Do you know someone whose heart feels called to help – maybe it’s YOU!? These can be working moms, stay-at-home moms, single moms, send them my way!!
2.) This is easy, and the guys can even show support this way too, just follow my business on instagram @yourfertilityadvocate, or show your support by subscribing to my new, refreshed blog, now renamed FertilityAdvocate.com. I am going to keep blogging about this world because it’s where my heart is, and I know it’s clearly my calling.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this long post and for your support and messages. The nature of my field of work isn’t something people speak about openly (yet), so even though my blog comments are scant, my DMs explode after I post something, so I know this is a space that people are hungry for authenticity and connection. And I promise to continue to share with you how my own personal journey unfolds, with the authenticity and honesty you all deserve!
Much love,
